Wind Turbines, convert wind into power
Wind turbines are used to convert the power of the wind into electricity. The rotation of the blades by the
wind is converted to electricity by the turbine. There are many different types of turbines but the most common
are the ones that rotate on a horizontal axis.
Turbines have the main rotor shaft and generator
at the top of a tower, that must be pointed into the wind by some means.
Small turbines are pointed by a simple wind vane, while large turbines
generally use a wind sensor coupled with a servomotor.
Most have a gearbox too, which turns the slow rotation of the blades
into a quicker rotation that is more suitable for generating electricity.
